Black Eyed Susan- Rudbeckia hirta
Black Eyed Susan- Rudbeckia hirta
A beautiful wildflower and an important medicinal to Native Americans, Black Eyed Susans were commonly used to treat snake bites, earaches, fevers, and the list goes on. These flowers are native to this region and are adaptable to most soil types. Black Eyed Susans enjoy full sun but can handle part shade and once established are heat and drought tolerant. Grows 2-3ft tall and should be spaced 12” apart. While Blacked Susans are more commonly planted as ornamental these days, they play an important role in attracting a slew of pollinators. These wildflowers are biennial, meaning they live for 2 years, but are excellent self seeders and will come back in the same location year after year.
